December 17, 2008: As announced, Microsoft has released a patch to address a critical remote-code-execution vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer. The MS08-078 bulletin (Microsoft Internet Pointer Reference Memory Corruption Vulnerability) address the vulnerability for Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 5.01, 6, 7, and 8 Beta 2 running on Windows 2000 SP4, XP SP3, Server 2003 SP1, Vista SP1 and certain Server 2008 configurations.

December 12, 2008: Microsoft has updated their security advisories for Microsoft Internet Explorer (961051) and Microsoft WordPad Text Converter (960906). The scope of the Internet Explorer vulnerability has been broadened to include Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 4, Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1, Internet Explorer 6, and Windows Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2. The WordPad Text Converter vulnerability affects Microsoft WordPad Text Converter for Word 97 running on Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, Windows XP Service Pack 2, and Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
